Institutional Audit under Uniform Guidance

Annually at Indiana University the Single Audit is performed in accordance with Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards (2 CFR Part 200). Indiana University, as a recipient of federally funded grants either directly or indirectly (pass through funding), is required to provide financial and compliance information for all federally funded grants. This information is examined by external auditors (Indiana State Board of Accounts) to determine if the federally sponsored programs were administered in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations. To ensure program integrity, the federal government relies upon audits performed by external, independent auditors. Auditors have a legal and ethical responsibility to perform audits that follow all applicable auditing standards and federal requirements.

Uniform Guidance establishes audit requirements and defines federal responsibilities for implementing and monitoring requirements for institutions of higher education and other nonprofit organizations receiving federal awards. Award Specific Audits

Audits are important to Indiana University and to our commitment to the highest level of financial standards. Audits may provide valuable information and will allow us the opportunity to have an external review of our internal controls, policies and procedures.

The project director is often the first point of contact when a sponsoring agency announces an award specific audit. Notification may be in the form of a phone call, email message, or a formal letter announcing an upcoming visit or financial review. Whether the agency is planning a standard programmatic review or a financial review/audit, please notify Jim Engel, Director of Grants Administration Financial Operations and Compliance, as soon as you are contacted by the agency so that we may assist you through the process.
